Chinese Carved Marble Guanyin (Guan Yin) Stone Panel Fragment Bas Relief

4,800.00

This finely carved Qing or earlier Chinese marble panel fragment depicts the Goddess Guanyin with a lotus flower at her forehead and elegant wisps of wind behind her hair. Seems to have some dirt in the fine cracks under magnification and calcified water marks on the front, likely from weathering.

Guanyin or Guan Yin is an East Asian bodhisattva associated with compassion as venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. She is commonly known as the "Goddess of Mercy" in English and Gayatri in Hindi. The Chinese name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World"

Dimensions: 1.25" thick x 7" x 8".
