1920 Austria 935 Silver and Enamel Parcel Gilt Machine Turned Box

1920 Austria 935 Silver and Enamel Parcel Gilt Machine Turned Box

This transitional late Jugendstil early art deco Austrian parcel gilt sterling silver box has it all. The top is enameled in a field of black with a dish of yellow, blue, and red flowers at the center and little green embellishments at the corners. The enamel is in very good condition with only the most minor surface scratching. The top is also decorated with hand etched chasing. Moving along to the sides, these are festooned all the way around in lightly gilded silver and relief grape and vine motif. And the bottom is a machine turned simple art deco parallel line pattern. The interior of the box is richly gilt and has the dark gold that time and careful use can give. There is a very very subtle loss of gilding on the box lid where it closes and has worn. Otherwise condition is superb with o major dents, scratches, dings or anything else of note. Marked on lid and main box part with a 1st period hoopoe bird and with the 1W designation for Vienna as well as the silver standard and the maker mark of MK. Also marked curiously 'MADE IN'.
