1767 Ker and Dempster Edinburgh Sterling Silver Salt Cellar George III Colonial

1767 Ker and Dempster Edinburgh Sterling Silver Salt Cellar George III Colonial

325.00

A George III sterling silver salt cellar made just before the American Independence by known Scottish makers Ker and Dempster. The piece is marked with the maker (K&D), Edinburgh city mark, Scotland sterling mark, and the year mark. Besides three scalloped hooves and a pie crust rim, the piece boasts a coat of arms belonging to the family of Christie, a shield four quarters a star in each under a withered holly branch sprouting out of leaves proper, and atop a motto 'Sic Viresco'. Two examples that would have sat upon the same Christie table sold at auction in the UK a few years ago. Condition is overall good with some subtle rippling of the metal.
