1890 Kashmiri Sterling Silver Tea Service Chinar Leaf and Lotus Blossom Motif

1890 Kashmiri Sterling Silver Tea Service Chinar Leaf and Lotus Blossom Motif

1,200.00

Very fine hand wrought tea service made by the world famous silversmiths of Kashmir in the third quarter 19th century. The item bears the well known lotus blossom and Chinar leaf motifs along with elaborate repousse work. Chinar (maple) leaf is a common motif of Kashmir who celebrate its splendorous fall colors. No makers marks (typical), but silver content is guaranteed. Spectacular hand chased repousse design covers every surface. Weight is about 1209 grams. Quality is extremely good with typical provincial silversmithing flaws. For example, the finials aren't at a perfect angle (not damaged, just how they were made). Teapot comfortably holds around 32 fluid ounces of water.
