800 Silver Art Deco Teapot Germany Sterling

800 Silver Art Deco Teapot Germany Sterling

A ca 1910 stunning art deco teapot by Theodor Julius Gunther of Berlin, Germany hallmarked 800 silver. This design is considered very rare because the lid opens to the side. Lid opens and closes snugly (perfectly). Hinge is not overly tight, but solid. Handle is very secure. It is clear that this teapot was handmade because it is slightly asymmetrical in the design. It's very subtle and adds character. You could own it for years and not notice but in the interest of full disclosure...

Dimensions: 135mm (5.3") wide and 140mm tall (5.5") and about 240mm (9.5") from spout to handle. Weight is 425 grams. Some light surface scratches and patina to exterior and a few small ripples in the metal. Hand carved ivory insulators one of which was probably replaced (costly repair in the hundreds). Interior has a lot of patina and smells of 10,000 fragrant cups of delight (seriously, it's a beautiful thing).
