450.00

Offered here, a ca 1830 pitcher standing on a round foot features some lovely detailing by William Baily Jr. A band of stylized shells or anthemions encircles the wide part of the pitcher body under the spout and also is around the foot. An almost geometric detailing edges the jug opening. Finally the handle terminates in a large stylized leaf. Heavy at 6.6 ounces the pitcher stands 6" at its tallest point, 5,75" from handle to spout and the base diameter is 3".

a Neo-classical coin silver cream jug by Bailey & Co Philadelphia. Monogrammed "Sproul" - possibly William Cameron Sproul b. 1870 and a Republican politician (27th Governor of Pennsylvania 1919 - 1923). Perhaps this cream jug belonged to his family. There is a Sproul Hall at Penn State University as well.
