1825 Laurent Amiot Silver Reliquary


An 1825 Laurent Amiot sterling silver reliquary pectoral cross. This piece was made for one of the nuns at the Hôpital-Général de Québec. Scarce and important heavy sterling silver reliquary with a hinged lid. Made by Canada's most important silversmith of the 18th and early 19th century. Condition is very good with some wear and scratches, but no major dents or dings.

-Dimensions are: 9.5 x 37 x 88mm. Unusually heavy construction at 56.1 grams.
-Hidden hinges. Reliquary unlocks and opens when the rowel is removed at the bottom
-Engraved with simple flowers and hearts. Also engraved with the messages: "Vivent Jesus et Marie" and "Marie a été conçue sans péché"
-Marked with serif capitals for the maker 'L.A' in an oval cartouche. Because the hallmark is struck to the interior, its condition is near perfect.
