1736 George II Sterling Silver Punch Strainer London by William Gwillim

$650.00
Offered here is a George II, 1736 historic sterling silver punch strainer made in London. Marked with the lion passant, crowned leopard, date mark letter 'a', and maker mark, probably for William Gwillim though possible William Garrard who was known to make punch toddies). Condition is excellent with some rubbing to the marks. Double scroll cast handles and excellent piercing work of the bowl. No significant damage. Surface scratching and very small dents. Marked with the initials of a married couple in the W I * M format(e.g., John and Mary Williams). A fabulous thing and getting scarcer to find these early George II examples. Recovered from a Cincinnatti estate. The stories it could surely tell.
