1805-1809 Richard-Émile Agu French 9.8" Sterling Silver Serving Plate with Palmette Pattern (430 grams)

$2,000.00
An extremely scarce sterling silver Empire style dish executed by silver worker, Richard-Émile Agu, of Paris 1805-09. The dish is round, measuring 11.75" across. This item has a beautiful egg and dart pattern at the rim. The back is left unadorned. Very clearly hallmarked for Odiot and with the hallmark. Overall, the gauge is extremely heavy. The mark a horse head between two dials (une tête de cheval entre deux molettes) along with the REA mark. Agu worked in Paris on rue St-Honoré, first registering a mark in 1805-1806. In 1813 he was on the Île St-Louis, terrain des Capucins. This dates from between 1805, when Agu first registered, and 1809, the end of the period shown by the standing cock in an octagonal reserve. This appears to be the only piece of Agu's work to enter the market in recent history, and the only one available. Recently recovered from a Chicago-area estate (Ex-Richard Fill collection).

In very good antique condition with wear and patina commensurate with age and usage. There is surface scratching that could be professionally conserved at your option.

Dimensions: 9.8"
