1834-1838 Sterling Silver (950) Sugar Bowl Paris, France by Etienne-Auguste Courtois

This hand forged early 19th century French solid sterling silver (950) sugar bowl wants for nothing. This piece was silversmith-built painstakingly over days, not stamped out in a factory. The quality is unmistakable when you feel it in your hand. Classic French silversmithing with evidence of the hammer marks that built it. Luxurious and sexy curves and proportions. The finial may be a pepper or perhaps a pumpkin. The gauge of the metal is average. This item is not weighted and has no monograms. lid fits nicely.
Hallmarked in numerous locations (finial, lid, bowl) with the traditional Courtois mark (AC in a diamond cartouche), as well as the French Minerva mark, and the cricket cornu mark for Paris, used 1819-38.
The size is fairly large at 5" x 7" x 7", holding about 3 1/2 cups of sugar, and weighs in at a hefty 458.5 grams. Condition is good with minor small dints and battle scars like a slightly bent foot (shown) and with appropriate patina.
