1840 Chinese Export Silver 8 Lobed Bowl by Wong Shing of Canton (550+ grams)

$6,000.00
A superior eight lobed 1840 Chinese sterling silver bowl handmade by Wong Shing of Canton in a transitional style. This heavy (552 gram) piece has applied curled foliage that wraps the entire diameter of the bowl and then it is monogrammed on both sides with a period script of 'GWS'. The engraving was likely done in England or the United States. Stamped 'W', lion, crowned leopard, and bust (all pseudomarks). Hammer ad other tool marks from the original construction are evident, especially on the bottom (see photo). Condition is outstanding with appropriate patina. Remains of gilding on the inside. A good candidate for regilding. Dimensions: 12" wide at the widest and 7" in height. Recovered from the Kay Collection of Virginia, who probably acquired it in the Atlantic Seaboard of the US or possibly England.

Highly competitive offers considered.
