Superb American ca. 1855 solid coin silver cream jug made in Boston, Mass by Jones, Shreve, Brown & Co. (active 1855–1858), George B. Jones (1815–1875), Benjamin Shreve (1813–1896), Seth E. Brown (American, 1821–1884). The pinnacle of 19th century Boston silversmithing with rich hand-chased grape motif embellishments. The pitcher has an extended slender curved neck with repousse ornamentation. The neck extends downward to a bulbous lower body that sits on a molded splayed ring. The rim is flat with a wide triangular lip; high crooked handle with an incised floral design and acanthus grip. Fully and crisply hallmarked for 'J. S. B. & Co'. Condition is excellent with minor overall wear from use. No noticeable damage. Dimensions are: 4.6” tall. Weight: 113 grams. Elegantly monogrammed with an elephant head erased (Oliphant family). Item is not weighted.
