10 Antique Burmese Pyu Style Carnelian Agate Melon Beads, Hand-Carved Red Stone
$240.00
A group of ten beautifully worn red stone beads in the distinctive melon form associated with traditional Asian lapidary work. Each bead is hand-shaped with six rounded lobes, creating a softly ribbed surface that catches the light. The brilliant red stone is opaque in appearance yet allows light to pass through, consistent with carnelian or red chalcedony.
The beads display substantial surface wear and a developed patina, with slight variations in length and diameter. Each is pierced through the center, with conical drill entrances from both ends meeting at the middle. These details invite comparison with historical carnelian-agate beads attributed to the Pyu cultural tradition of present-day Myanmar (Burma), known for its early stone-working and bead-making traditions.
The group is offered as Pyu-style beads, possibly Burmese in origin. A specific date and cultural attribution have not been independently established, so these should be regarded as informed possibilities rather than confirmed provenance.
A compelling group for collectors of ancient beads, traditional lapidary work, and historic Asian adornment.
Quantity: 10 beads
Material: Red carnelian or chalcedony, identification tentative
Form: Six-lobed melon
Condition: Extensive surface wear and patina, with natural variation in size
