138-141 AD Roman Sestertius Coin of Diva Faustina the Elder – SIDEREBVS RECEPTA, Apotheosis Type

$75.00
This large and impressive sestertius was issued shortly after the death of Faustina the Elder, wife of Emperor Antoninus Pius, who was deeply revered by her husband and later deified. The reverse legend SIDEREBVS RECEPTA ("Received into the stars") commemorates her official deification and entrance into the divine realm. Struck early in the reign of Antoninus Pius, this coin served both to honor his wife’s memory and to bolster the legitimacy of his rule by linking it to the imperial tradition of apotheosis. The bold artistry and cosmic symbolism make it a powerful example of Roman dynastic propaganda. Roman Empire – Diva Faustina the Elder (Died 140 AD) – Posthumous Bronze Sestertius Date: Struck circa 141 AD, under Antoninus Pius Diameter: ~27.8 mm Weight: 22.25 grams Obverse: DIVA FAVSTINA – Draped bust of Diva Faustina the Elder right, hair elaborately arranged and bound. Reverse: SIDEREBVS RECEPTA – Faustina, veiled and draped, carried heavenward by a winged figure (possibly Aeternitas), symbolizing her apotheosis.
