1604-1605 James I English Sterling Silver St James the Greater Apostle Spoon

$3,300.00
A scarce 1604 James I English sterling silver St James The Greater (with his stave) apostle spoon. This spoon has all the classic characteristics. Hand hammered fig form bowl and a London mark in the bowl. Four sided handle and a sand cast terminal retaining some gilding. Spoon is stamped with the date mark for 1604, the English lion passant, and the maker mark, crossed clubs in saltire. The marks are not very crisp but are easily readable. Some patina across the spoon including some overpolishing, surface scratching, and other very small battle scars. Overall, condition is impeccable and remarkable. The gauge of the spoon is very heavy construction and the condition is probably owed to this. [Reference: Jackson's, Ian Pickford Edition, The Antique Collectors Club, 1989, page 108.]. For another spoon by the same maker, see Wooley and Wallis Silver & Objects of Vertu - Day 1 - 11 Jul 2023 Lot 228 Weight: 65 grams Length: 7.25" Check out some of my other sterling silver flatware here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP?ref=shop_sugg§ion_id=7399760 Or just browse around the shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP
