1675 C. Plinii Panegyricus Liber Trajano Dictus by Hackiana Press (Leiden) – Early Classical Latin Edition (Pliny the Younger)
$175.00
Offered here is a rare 1675 printing of C. Plinii Panegyricus liber Trajano dictus, published by the Hackiana press in Leiden (Lugduni Batavorum). This early scholarly edition of Pliny the Younger’s celebrated Panegyricus to Emperor Trajan includes extensive annotations by Dominicus Baudius, with additional commentary from Justus Lipsius, Johannes Livineius, Janus Gruterus, and Conrad Rittershausen, along with selected notes by various humanist scholars.
The engraved printer’s device on the title page features the Hackiana eagle with the motto Movendo, marking it as an authentic Leiden imprint of the late 17th century. This work is a cornerstone of both Roman oratory and humanist philological tradition, valued by collectors of antiquarian books, classical texts, and early Dutch printing.
Condition is consistent with age: toned pages, some edge wear, but strong legibility throughout and an intact title page. A remarkable survival from the scholarly presses of 17th-century Holland.
