A pre-revolution colonial coin silver shellback teaspoon by well-known patriot and silversmith of Rhode Island, Thomas Arnold. Mark on this is a crisp ARNOLD in rectangular cartouche alongside his second cursive 'TA' mark in a second cartouche. Outstanding marks. Arnold was appointed in 1774 as Delegate to conventions in Philadelphia in Newport RI. Extremely scarce and sought maker. Collected by Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Yale University, and others. Condition is excellent but with moderate wear to the shell pattern.
