1762–1763 Henry Bickerton “Smallwork” Rococo Picture-Back Teaspoon
$160.00
Offered here is a charming and scarce example of 18th-century English smallwork, a teaspoon by the esteemed London silversmith Henry Bickerton, measuring 4.5"+. Marked HB and with the sterling lion passant.
The bowl features a well-defined Rococo picture-back swage impression, that lively decorative flourish so typical of mid-Georgian taste. The handle ends in a graceful upturned terminal, a fashionable form of the 1760s–1770s. The period monogram “M / TA” is neatly engraved and remains fully legible.
Condition is good, with expected light wear from nearly 250 years of age but no bends, repairs, or structural issues—excellent for collectors of smallwork, specialist spoons, and early British silver.
A lovely, authentic Georgian survivor by one of London’s most collected flatware makers, and a textbook example of legal smallwork bearing maker’s mark only.
