1770-1790 Abijah Northey Coin Silver Teaspoon Salem, MA
$850.00
c. 1770 small teaspoon by Abijah Northey of Salem. Perhaps a 1772 wedding gift. Stamped 'AN', and monogrammed in period script for original owners Benjamin Cheever and Ruth Osgood (C/ B*R). Al accompanying note written by their great great granddaughter explains the provenance (see also genealogy of the family).
This teaspoon features an upturned handle and a prominent midrib spine meeting the slightly elongated bowl. Bowl reverse is decorated with a provincial scallop. Average wear on this piece nothing serious. Northey was one of Salem's early silversmiths. Not many pieces by this maker, least of all with the original owners fully traced.
