1790 Dublin Irish Sterling Silver Asparagus Tongs, Bright Cut Engraving, Rare Georgian Form (132 g) LRC

$1,200.00
A rare and exceptionally handsome pair of Georgian Dublin sterling silver asparagus tongs dating to approximately 1790. This substantial serving piece features beautifully executed bright cut engraving, a decorative technique that reached its height during the late 18th century and perfectly complements the elegant form. The maker's mark is present but no longer sufficiently clear for positive attribution, while the Dublin hallmarks remain to confirm its origin. An exceptionally uncommon form, asparagus tongs were produced in far smaller numbers than sugar tongs or serving pieces, making surviving Irish examples particularly desirable. A tiny import mark, likely added later in the piece's history, is also present. Measuring 11.25 inches in length and weighing an impressive 132 grams, the tongs have outstanding gauge and a commanding presence. They remain in excellent antique condition with crisp engraving, an attractive mellow patina, and no notable condition issues. A superb example of Georgian Dublin silver and an outstanding addition to any serious collection of Irish flatware or rare serving pieces. Dimensions: 11.25" in length. Weight is about 132 grams.
