1835 Edwin Comfort Newbury Connecticut Coin Silver Tablespoon (38 g)

$80.00
A handsome early American coin silver tablespoon by Edwin Comfort Newbury, a Connecticut silversmith who worked in Brooklyn from approximately 1828 to 1860. Dating to circa 1830–1840, this substantial 8¾-inch spoon is an appealing example of the early nineteenth-century American tradition of locally made coin silver flatware, produced before the widespread standardization of sterling silver. The spoon is unmonogrammed and remains in overall good condition, with the expected evidence of use in the form of some right-handed wear to the bowl. At 38 grams, it has a pleasingly substantial feel in the hand. The combination of an early date, identifiable Connecticut maker, generous proportions, and unmonogrammed condition makes this a particularly attractive example for collectors of early American coin silver and regional Connecticut silver. Dimensions: 8 3/4". Weight is about 38 grams.
