1835 Pair of Thomas Eltonhead American Coin Silver Teaspoons – Baltimore, Maryland (34 g)

$75.00
A scarce pair of early American coin silver teaspoons by Thomas Eltonhead of Baltimore, Maryland, an important Baltimore silversmith whose marked coin silver flatware is considerably less frequently encountered than other Baltimore silver. These handsome early teaspoons retain the simple, elegant proportions characteristic of American coin silver of the period and bear the maker's mark of Thomas Eltonhead. Both spoons are engraved with the period monogram “JMAB,” for the original owner or family for whom they were made. The pair has a combined weight of 34 grams. Both showing signs of age and use but sound. The wear is entirely consistent with the long domestic use these small pieces of early American flatware were intended to receive. Eltonhead's coin silver is of particular interest to collectors of Baltimore silver and early American silversmithing.
