1860-90 French Viton, Ferdinand & Delon, Aldric, Antique 950 Silver Rococo Revival Jewelry Box - Wedding Ring Box (126 grams) MAX
$450.00
A rare and exquisitely crafted 19th-century French silver box, richly ornamented in the Rococo Revival style and standing on three elegant feet. Originally made as a luxury table box, it now offers a dramatic and unforgettable presentation for an engagement ring.
Full Description:
This exceptional small silver box was crafted in France during the second half of the 19th century by Viton, Ferdinand & Delon, Aldric, a respected provincial workshop known for finely made small luxury silver objects. Executed in solid .800 silver, the box is marked with the crab petite garantie and the firm’s maker’s mark, VD separated by a hammer.
The exterior is lavishly worked in the Rococo Revival taste, with scrolling foliage and shell motifs characteristic of the Second Empire and early Third Republic. The box stands on three finely formed feet, giving it a sculptural presence and allowing it to sit proudly on a table or dressing surface.
The hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal a gilt interior, originally intended to protect contents from oxidation and now perfectly suited to cradle a ring or small jewel. The heavy gauge of the silver gives the box a satisfying weight and permanence—qualities that make it especially compelling as a romantic presentation box for an engagement or anniversary ring.
While originally used in the 19th century as a refined table box—often for snuff—its scale, elegance, and jewel-like character make it an inspired and distinctive alternative to a modern ring box.
