Offered here is an attractive 1863 Sarawak 1 Cent coin (KM#3), struck in copper during the reign of Rajah James Brooke, the first White Rajah of Sarawak. This is the earliest issue of Sarawak coinage, produced in Birmingham by Ralph Heaton & Sons. The obverse bears a left-facing portrait of Rajah James Brooke with the legend RAJAH OF SARAWAK, while the reverse displays the denomination ONE CENT and the date within a wreath. This example grades about Very Fine (VF), showing even circulation wear with the main details of the portrait and reverse wreath remaining clear.
