1866-1882 Whiting Sterling Silver Solid Cheese Scoop in 'Cat And Mouse' Pattern (74 grams)
$1,200.00
Fine Whiting sterling silver cheese scoop in the exceedingly rare 'cat and mouse' pattern. Condition is excellent with light surface scratching and slight wear from use as shown especially to gilding and intentional patination at the scoop portion. Restrained and classic lines with a gorgeous all over hammered pattern and a fiddle tip't terminal. Beautifully hand chased and with the applique mouse on his perch. Nicely hallmarked on the reverse of stem and with maker's mark of Whiting and sterling silver. Lovely piece for your next time serving. No monograms, removals, or repairs. Also marked with the retailer mark of OGDEN CRITTENDON, a Cleveland-based jewelry outfit that operated in Cleveland and is believed to have been closed on or before the death of Mariah Ogden Crittendon in 1882 (she succeeded both her son and husband in the business).
74 grams, ~8", and a heavy heirloom gauge.
