1870 Kidney & Johnson Medallion Coin Silver Gilt Ladle of New York (189 g)

$1,250.00
A fabulous and scarce 1870 solid coin silver Soup Ladle. The firm was formed in the late 1860's and by the mid 1870's it was dissolved [Reference: Soeffing]. The ladle has a dramatic arcing handle and an elegant wide bowl with traces of gilding. The stem swoops into the handle that encloses the heavily cast right-facing portrait. In this case, the medallion is unusually crisp and pristine. Above the medallion is a distinctive silver bead and a slightly upturned terminal. Marked for the maker, Kidney & Johnson and the ladle is engraved with the monogram 'JEE'. Dimensions: 12.75" Weight: 189 grams Price is firm.
