1871 Tiffany Sterling Silver Audubon Fish Slice, Heron & Fish Motif (138 g) MAX
$720.00
Designed in 1871, Tiffany & Co.'s celebrated Audubon pattern remains one of the firm's most admired naturalistic designs, drawing inspiration from the rich bird and wildlife studies of the nineteenth century. This sterling silver fish slice is an exceptional example of the pattern, featuring a finely pierced and engraved blade depicting a fish swimming amongst reeds, while the handle terminates in a beautifully sculpted heron grasping a fish in its beak. Together, these motifs create a remarkably cohesive composition that reflects Tiffany's mastery of both sculptural modeling and ornamental engraving during the late Victorian period.
The piece measures an impressive 11¾ inches in length and bears an engraved "MBC" monogram. Fish slices in the Audubon pattern are considerably less common than standard serving pieces, making them especially desirable to collectors of Tiffany flatware and American sterling silver. The combination of the richly decorated blade, the dramatic heron finial, and the enduring popularity of the Audubon pattern makes this an outstanding display piece as well as a functional serving utensil.
Dimensions: 11 3/4".
Weight is about 138 grams.
