1880-1890 Pair of Meiji-Era Japanese Bronze Vases with Birds and Blossoms, 15.5" Tall

$2,600.00
This Meiji period pair of unusually large Japanese parcel gilt bronze vases were produced ca. 1880-1890 by an unknown maker. This pair of Japanese bronze vases dates to the late Meiji period (circa 1880–1900). Both vases feature exquisite parcel gilt decoration, showcasing naturalistic scenes of birds perched among blossoming branches and rippling water, a popular motif symbolizing harmony, longevity, and prosperity in Japanese art. The rich gilt highlights contrast beautifully with the warm bronze patina, emphasizing the intricate detailing of feathers, blossoms, and flowing water. Condition is fair for age and usage with some battle scars. One vase has some issues likely caused by droppage at some point. Cracking and compression of the metal on one side leading to holes in the vessel wall (please see detailed photos). However, positioned correctly, these vases are visually stunning and this condition issue is clearly accounted for in the favorable price. Also note that these extremely heavy vessels will be shipped to you at no additional charge. Note the very large size: 15.5" x 4.25" rim diameter.
