This beautifully detailed sterling silver souvenir spoon by R. Wallace & Sons (RW&S) was created for the 1892–1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Columbus’s voyage. The 6" spoon weighs 24 grams and features the word “CHICAGO” raised on the stem, framed by scrollwork. Below it, finely struck scenes include the Santa Maria, Columbus at the court of Barcelona (1492–1493), and a palace-front canal scene of Venice with gondolas, titled “1892–3.” The reverse is plain save for the full STERLING and RW&S mark. An excellent example of World’s Fair silver by a leading American maker—both display-worthy and historically rich.
