1895 View of Smith Cove in East Gloucester by Holmes Smith - Original Watercolor Painting (10" x 14")

$800.00
Offered is an original watercolor painting by Holmes Smith (1863-1937) executed on paper in around 1910 of a view of Smith Cove in East Gloucester, looking towards the inner harbor and downtown in distance. The scene is the watermen in the foreground and unfinished silhouettes of townspeople walking about. Colors are beautiful and this is a classic Holmes Smith painting by a well known regionalist. The painting is 7" x 10" and is sold unframed. Smith was a longtime faculty member of Washington University. He came to the University in 1884 as a drawing instructor and became professor of drawing and history of art in 1907. I have a number of Smith watercolors that were sourced from deaccessions from the family estate. Perfect for framing.
