1980-1995 Norma Keith Hand Woven 'Double Arches' Utah Tapestry
$425.00
Offered here is a vibrant and intricately hand-woven tapestry by known Albuquerque textile artist Norma Keith (1929-2010) of the Las Arañas Guild captures the dynamic beauty of the Southwestern landscape through masterful abstraction. Norma was an accomplished artist, who loved and excelled at oil painting. Later with diminished eyesight, she began weaving beautiful tapestries and rugs. Crafted perhaps in the latter part of her life, this tapestry is an homage to the interplay of the sun-drenched mesas, arches, and sprawling desert skies of Arches National Park—rendered in warm, rich hues of red, ochre, purple, and orange.
The meticulous craftsmanship demonstrates the weaver’s technical prowess. The interplay of curves and angular forms required expert control of the loom, as well as a precise understanding of tension and color blending. Each gradient and sharp line within the organic arches reflects hours of painstaking labor and an intimate knowledge of fiber manipulation, a skill that elevates the work to the status of fine art (probably about 100 hours to make this one).
Exciting piece! About 30 x 34 and wall ready with a pole to hang from the top.
