1984 Ari D Norman London Sterling Silver Oval Napkin Ring, Plain Form (20g)
$80.00
A handsome 1984 Ari D Norman sterling silver napkin ring, of simple oval form and weighing approximately 20 grams. The restrained design is entirely plain, allowing the quality of the silver and the clean proportions of the form to speak for themselves.
Hallmarked in London in 1984 for Ari D Norman, the ring bears the full British sterling silver hallmarks. Ari D Norman established his London design and manufacturing operation in 1976 and became particularly well known for his finely made sterling silver giftware and small silver objects. The firm's hallmark is the initials AN within a shield, and its work encompasses napkin rings, boxes, jewelry, tableware, and other traditionally styled silver goods.
The plain oval napkin ring is a particularly useful example of Norman's approach to modern British silver: traditional in function and construction, but clean and uncomplicated in design. Comparable Ari D Norman oval napkin rings from the 1980s are documented in the trade and auction market, including a set of 1985–86 examples and a pair dated 1987.
An attractive example of 1980s London sterling silver, equally appropriate for use at the table or as a small collectible piece of modern British silver.
