American Robert Butler Oak Leaf and Acorn Pure Silver Wine Coaster Pair

$6,200.00
Fabulous pair of wine coasters by talented American silversmith, Robert Butler. These wine coasters, though produced in a classic style, features Butler's unique and not seen elsewhere pattern of oak boughs and acorns. Hand-forged and hand-hammered, these substantial matching pieces are both a conversation starter and an exemplar of Butler’s playful approach to silversmithing. Its sculptural form transcends utility, making them an exceptional addition to any collection. For example, it is designed to hold both a standard and magnum bottle. It also has an unused reserve so that you may have it personalized if needed. The bottom features a purple felt with signs of use (can be replaced as needed). The center of the coaster is composed of a hand-turned hardwood base. Butler’s talent spans a spectrum of styles, from disciplined and classical to whimsical creations such as his giraffe-neck-covered bowl. This wine coaster exemplifies his inventive spirit and craftsmanship. Though American-born, Butler’s hallmark was granted by the London Assay Office in 1976 following his formal training in England, and his works are characterized by unexpected and delightful details. Examples of his work in the secondary market are scarce, with only a handful appearing in the trade. Notable placements include a second wine coaster in the DC Silver Collection and pieces held by prestigious institutions like the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. This wine coaster pair is an opportunity to acquire pieces from one of contemporary silversmithing’s most original talents. Marked: 'R A BUTLER Sterling' (the silver of the body of this is 100% silver and the rim/foot is sterling). Condition: Very good Approximately 1,000 grams silver in addition to the turned walnut. 2.5" x 6" Check out some of my other US sterling silver hollowware here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP?ref=shop_sugg§ion_id=6783258 Or just browse around the shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP
