Antique Chinese Carved Bamboo Brush Washer – Chrysanthemums, Mountain Stones & Bird Motif – 3.5″ x 5 1/8″ – Excellent Condition

$600.00
A finely carved Chinese bamboo brush washer, deeply worked in relief with a continuous scene of chrysanthemums growing among rugged mountain stones, accompanied by a bird among the branches. The carving is bold and confident, with excellent depth and well-articulated detail throughout, reflecting the traditional scholar’s aesthetic. Recently recovered from an old collection of carved Chinese bamboo objects in Virginia. The vessel is smoothly hollowed, intended for rinsing calligraphy brushes. The exterior carving retains strong highly detailed definition and a warm, naturally aged surface consistent with well-preserved bamboo. Dimensions: 5 1/8 inches long x 3 1/2 inches wide Condition: Extremely good condition. There is a short, forming hairline crack visible in the bamboo, not penetrating and not affecting the structural integrity of the piece. This is typical of aged bamboo and should be regarded as a normal, honest characteristic of the material. No repairs observed. 歡迎瀏覽本人其他古董藏品： https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP?ref=search_shop_redirect§ion_id=6783279 或隨意參觀本店鋪： https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP Brush washers of this quality were essential objects on the scholar’s desk, valued not only for their utility but for their symbolic decoration.
