Offered is a very unique and beautiful antique Turkmen brooch set with numerous red glass cabochons. The body of this is made of parcel gilt silver with numerous dangles and bells. It attaches with a handmade steel pin on the reverse. Condition is good with some dings noted in one of the bells (see photo). Weight: 72 grams. Dimensions: 3.75" x 6.5" The Turkmen are nomadic people in the deserts of Turkmenistan and surrounding areas of central Asia where they have lived for thousands of years. They are well-known for their jewelry made of silver gilt accented with carnelian or red glass jewels and sometimes turquoise beads. There are five major tribes of turkmen, the Tekke, Ersari, Yomut, Choudur and Saryks represented by the five stars of the turkmen national flag.
