Bhutanese Silver Koma Clothing Clasp Pair with Turquoise Cabochon, Convertible Brooch and Pendant (76 g)
$550.00
A striking matched pair of Bhutanese silver koma, or traditional clothing clasps, centered by small turquoise cabochons. These pieces retain the distinctive form and character of traditional Bhutanese garment fastening, but it may be possible with a little work they can be suspended as pendants or cloak clasps. No chain is included.
The clasp is formed in silver with the turquoise cabochons set the corners, surrounded by traditional decorative detailing in silver and gilt. The substantial silver construction gives them a satisfying weight in the hand, while the relatively compact size makes it very wearable.
Koma are traditional Bhutanese dress ornaments used to secure and decorate garments, particularly the kira and other elements of traditional women's dress. Individual examples vary considerably in design and ornament, and pieces such as this have also found use as jewelry outside their original context.
