C. 1720 Splendid Norway Silver Spoon with Hand Engraved Patterns (41 g)

Offered here is an 18th century provincial Norwegian spoon-- marked AVB and 9/M. Made in a traditional pattern with resplendent hand etched chasing of an elegant symbol. Monogrammed on the reverse of the bowl in the traditional way with the two sets of monograms in a wreath. This style makes me believe this spoon was given at a wedding. Really a very special, rare and unique piece. Wear is commensurate with age and use as shown but the condition is very good and it does not appear overpolished as some examples are. Overall, this spoon has a stout and impressive profile and classic proportions in the heavier older style. Length: About 7 1/8" in length 41 grams.
