c. 1760 Franz Joseph Dienick, Münster Germany Silver Candlesticks

$5,000.00
An elegant and beautifully preserved pair of solid silver candlesticks, crafted in Münster, Germany, circa 1760, by Franz Joseph Dienick, a documented silversmith of the Münster guild. Each piece bears the maker’s mark F / ID together with the town mark, both identical to those published examples and the Christie’s 2007 sale of Dienick’s silver tea-caddy (Lot 249, Sale 2743). Executed in a refined early Neoclassical style, these candlesticks feature crisp octagonal bases edged with laurel borders, reeded columns adorned with swags and drops, and broad candle sockets with removable bobeches. The design bridges the late Rococo and emerging Neoclassical taste characteristic of mid-18th century Westphalian silver. Maker: Franz Joseph Dienick (active Münster, mid-18th century) Origin: Münster, Germany Date: circa 1760 Height: 9.5 in (24 cm) Base width: 4.25 in (10.8 cm) Weight: 20.395 troy ounces (total / 634 grams) Material: Solid silver (continental standard) Condition: Excellent antique condition; very minor age wear consistent with use. No repairs or structural issues. Marks: Fully struck with matching F / ID maker’s marks and Münster town mark (identical to Christie’s Lot 249 example). A rare and distinguished pair from one of Münster’s known 18th-century silversmiths — museum-quality silver with wonderful presence and weight. Comparable example: Christie’s, Dutch and Foreign Silver, Judaica, Russian Works of Art and Objects of Vertu, 14 June 2007, Lot 249 — A German silver tea-caddy, mark of Franz Joseph Dienick, Münster, circa 1760 (realised €1,440). 4.25" W x 9.5" H x 4.25" D
