    c. 1862 Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot Sterling Silver Coffee Pot - Paris (1000 grams) with Noble Ducal Cypher

A very fine c. 1870 Paris coffee pot in the form of an ibrik, House of Odiot, by goldsmith, Édouard Récipon and with a ducal(?) crest. Solid 950 silver, parcel gilt, and so noted with multiple Minerva stamps. Classic orientaliste form of a Turkish cofee pot, but this design was known to be 'moka' pot (see Sothebys "Service à moka sur son plateau en argent et vermeil, les neuf zarfs en porcelaine sur présentoir en argent et vermeil, par Jean-Baptiste-Gustave Odiot, Paris, vers 1870", Lot 121, 01 Dec, 2011, "Orfèvrerie Européenne, Boîtes en Or et Objets de Vitrine". This item has a beautiful period royal cypherl engraved at the neck with crowned 'D' over cypher. Overall, the gauge is extremely heavy as you would expect from Odiot during the Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot period. Exactly 1000.0 grams. Recently recovered from a Pittsburgh-area estate.

Odiot made this cofee pot in the Turkish form for the 1862 International Exhibition in London. That example was bought by Said Pacha, Viceroy of Egypt [Reference: French Orientalist Silver of the 19th Century by David Allan].

In very good antique condition with little wear and patina commensurate with age and usage.

  Dimensions: 12" tall

[Reference: A wash drawing of this piece by Edouard Récipon of about 1850 is illustrated in J-M Pinçon and O Gaube du Gers, Odiot L'orfevre, Brussels, 1990, pp 180/181]
