c. 1880 Antique English Wood-Handled Adjustable Wrench, “G. Shelley"
$110.00
A scarce English adjustable wrench stamped “G. Shelley,” a maker known from other surviving period tools and associated with early adjustable wrench development in Britain during the late 19th century. Examples of Shelley-marked tools appear across the emerging industrial toolkit of the era, reflecting the shift toward standardized yet still partly hand-finished implements.
This example features a forged iron/steel head with a turned wooden handle, now deeply patinated from long use. The adjustment mechanism remains exceptionally smooth and responsive. The jaws do not close completely (a typical outcome of wear) and open to approximately 1.75" or slightly more.
Length: 10.25 in.
Condition: Heavy, honest wear with oxidation and handling patina; fully functional with notably smooth action.
A well-preserved and tactile piece of English industrial history—equally suited to collection, display, or continued light use.
