c. 1921 Kubachi (Dagestan) Islamic Silver Two Part Buckle, Tbilisi Assay 84 Zolotnik 350g
$1,600.00
An exceptional example of early 20th-century Kubachi silverwork from the Islamic Caucasus. This substantial plaque or mount weighs 350 grams and is beautifully engraved with classic floral motifs and an Arabic inscription dated 1339 AH (1920–1921 CE). The silver is marked with the Russian Imperial 84 kokoshnik standard and bears the rare Tbilisi assay mark of Iosif Schmidetsky (I Ш), who oversaw silver hallmarking in the region during the turbulent transition from the Russian Empire to Soviet authority.
Kubachi silver is prized for its bold designs and deep Islamic heritage. The presence of the Islamic date, combined with Russian state hallmarking, reflects the cultural and political crossroads of the Caucasus in the early 20th century. A fine addition to any collection of Russian, Islamic, or Caucasian silver.
Condition is good with two small losses (see photos).
