c. 1940-1960 Sterling Silver Toby Jug Creamer Man with Mustache and Tri-Cornered Hat, New Orleans Silversmiths (97 g)
$650.00
From the workshop of now closed New Orleans Silversmiths comes this finely cast sterling silver creamer in the form of a Toby jug. Fashioned as a man with a distinguished mustache and crowned by a tri-cornered hat, the vessel presents a whimsical yet dignified countenance. The sculpted features, from the long, pointed nose to the defined handle and spout, demonstrate both skill and humor in equal measure.
The creamer is of a compact yet pleasing proportion and of an extremely heavy gauge. It sits comfortably in the hand, offering both decorative appeal and practical function. The silver retains a soft patina, lending depth to the modeling, while the form remains crisp and lively.
A charming example of mid-twentieth-century American silver, this piece will appeal to collectors of novelty silver and to those who appreciate the enduring wit and artistry of the Toby jug tradition.. Weight is about 97 grams and 2.25" tall. Pretty unusual!
