Ca 1795-98 Claudius Chat Coin Silver Coffin End Tablespoon Philadelphia

$600.00
Offered here is a coin silver coffin end tablespoon with a classic profile. This is an extremely scarce French maker who emigrated to Philadelphia to settle in the French community that was concentrated from the waterfront to Fourth Street, between Spruce and Arch. Claudius Chat’s shop was located between Chestnut and Walnut. A couple of Chat spoons are at Winterthur (e.g., 1962.0240.995). Chat may have died in 1798, and based on the coffin end design, this spoon must have been in the last years of his life. Check out some of my other sterling silver here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/neurorocker?section_id=6783258 Or just browse around the shop! http://www.etsy.com/shop/neurorocker
