This intriguing item is probably a Dutch adornment that was converted to a buckle. The original purpose is not known however a small hole penetrates each of the four lobe and there is pinpoint engraving (in the Northern European style) beneath the buckle predating that addition. It might have adorned a church book or coffer. Across the front of this item, it is adorned with five saints. Saint Christopher and others not identified. Fascinating piece.
3.5" x 4".
