Fred Tuch (1924–2012) – 20th C. American Southwest High Desert Landscape, Oil on Canvas 12x16
$1,200.00
This evocative oil painting by Fred Tuch, an Academy Award–nominated Hollywood art director and accomplished fine artist, captures the quiet drama and expansive beauty of the American Southwest. A series of high red bluffs in the background steals the show of this plein air scene.
Born in North Hollywood, California, Tuch studied at the Otis Art Institute, Art Center College of Design, Allied Arts, and the renowned Chouinard Art School. His distinguished career in the motion picture industry spanned more than four decades, during which he worked as a scenic artist, production illustrator, art director, and production designer for major Hollywood studios, including MGM. His work earned him Emmy and Academy Award nominations for Art Direction, and his mastery of composition and light is evident throughout this painting.
While Tuch gained international acclaim during a 1965 sabbatical in Spain—where two of his works were acquired by the Spanish government for the Royal Palace in Madrid—his enduring passion was the American Southwest. That passion is powerfully expressed here through the vast desert terrain, dramatic sky, hallmarks of his mature Western work. His Southwestern paintings were celebrated in exhibitions across the United States and Europe and featured in the French publication Cowboys and Indians.
Painting is well signed at lower right in red.
Dimensions: 12" x 16" with a linen insert and gilt wood frame. Back is neatly paper lined and this is wall ready.
