Large 19th-Century Islamic Copper Bowl with Extensive Stamped Decoration and Traces of Silver and Gold

$125.00
A large and impressive 19th-century copper bowl, extensively decorated throughout with dense stamped and punched ornament. The surface retains scattered remnants of both silver and gold-colored plating, particularly evident within portions of the decoration, creating an attractive contrast against the deep, varied patina of the underlying copper. The decoration is characteristically Middle Eastern/Islamic in feeling, although the precise place of manufacture has not been determined. With its broad proportions and substantial construction, the vessel may have been used as a serving or presentation bowl, perhaps for fruit or other foodstuffs. Its original purpose, however, was likely more utilitarian, with the elaborate surface decoration elevating an otherwise functional copper vessel. The extensive hand-worked ornament, surviving precious-metal decoration, and beautifully aged surface make this an especially appealing example of 19th-century Middle Eastern metalwork. The bowl remains in antique condition, with considerable natural patina, surface variation, minor imperfections and evidence of age throughout. It presents exceptionally well and has an appealing, genuinely old appearance. Dimensions: 10.5" diameter at rim x 5.5" high Material: Copper, with remnants of silver and gold plating Date: 19th century Origin: Probably Middle Eastern; precise origin undetermined Condition: Antique condition with extensive patina and surface wear, presenting very well Check out some of my other antiques: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP?ref=search_shop_redirect§ion_id=6783279 Or just browse around the shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/DCSILVERSHOP
