Rare Chinese Silver Garment Clasp with Chain — Da Tang / Yong Sheng (xxx g)

$650.00
An exceptionally unusual Chinese silver garment fastening, consisting of two matching, mirror-image kidney-shaped plaques joined by approximately 5 inches of delicate silver chain. Each plaque is distinctly concave and entirely hand-hammered, with restrained stamped decoration following the perimeter. The unusual construction appears to have been intended as a specialized garment clasp or fastening, although its precise original application remains uncertain. The plaques bear the Chinese marks 大膅 (Da Tang) and 永盛 (Yong Sheng), attributed by renowned Chinese Export Silver specialist Adrien von Ferscht. Von Ferscht, who has extensively documented Chinese silversmiths, workshops, and marks, noted that he had never previously encountered this particular form. The combination of the unusual construction, hand-worked surfaces, and apparently rare marks makes this a particularly intriguing example of Chinese silver craftsmanship. The piece was acquired in Sweden, providing an interesting Scandinavian provenance for an object that was almost certainly made within the Chinese silver tradition. Its restrained ornament and practical construction contrast with the more familiar presentation silver and jewelry produced by Chinese silversmiths for export markets. A highly unusual and potentially unique piece of Chinese silver, particularly suited to a specialist collection of Chinese Export Silver, Asian silver, or historic costume accessories. Approximately 5" of connecting silver chain Hand-hammered construction Stamped decorative border Marks: 大膅 (Da Tang) and 永盛 (Yong Sheng) Marks identified by Adrien von Ferscht Acquired in Sweden Precise original garment application unknown Condition: Good antique condition, with the expected minor surface wear and handling associated with a hand-crafted antique silver fitting.
