Tibetan Bronze Statue of Manjushri, Bodhisattva of Wisdom, 16"
$750.00
An impressive and finely cast bronze figure of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, rising to a height of sixteen inches. The deity is shown seated in full lotus posture upon a broad double lotus base, richly incised with petal and scroll designs. His right hand brandishes the sword of transcendent knowledge, cutting through ignorance and illusion, while his left hand, in the gesture of teaching, supports a lotus blossom surmounted by the Prajnaparamita Sutra, the great scripture of perfect wisdom.
The figure is crowned and adorned with elaborate jewelry, each detail crisply chased, from the floral motifs upon the robe to the beaded ornaments of the headdress. Cast in the traditional lost wax method, this example likely originates from a Nepalese or Tibetan workshop during the mid–20th century. Both devotional and decorative, it represents one of the most venerated of the celestial bodhisattvas, embodying the ideal of supreme wisdom. Good condition with one cabochon missing from the nipple. This is a two piece statue with removable stand.
